چکیده

In the numerical simulation of the combustion process and microstructural evolution, we need to consider the adaptive meshing problem for a domain with a moving boundary, in which, the submesh in the region behind the moving boundary needs to be coarsened while the submesh in the region ahead of the moving boundary needs to be reened. In this paper, we present a uniied scheme for simultaneously reening and coarsening a mesh. Our method guarantees that the resulting mesh is well-shaped and is of a size that is within a constant factor of the optimal possible. We also present several practical variations of our provably good algorithm.

Spacetime Meshing with Adaptive Coarsening and Refinement

We propose a new algorithm for constructing finite-element meshes suitable for spacetime discontinuous Galerkin solutions of linear hyperbolic PDEs. Our new method is a generalization of the ‘Tent Pitcher’ algorithms of Üngör and Sheffer [3] and Erickson et al. [2]. Given a simplicially-meshed domain Ω in IR and a target time value T , our method constructs a mesh of the spacetime domain Ω× [0,...

Parallel Unstructured Mesh Adaptation for Transient Moving Body and Aeropropulsive Applications

Adaptive, unstructured grid methods, in which the mesh is allowed to deform, and grid quality subsequently restored through localized coarsening and refinement, offer the potential of a more rapid, straightforward approach to generalized moving body problems. Automation of this mesh movement and quality correction strategy requires a close coupling with the flow solution process. With parallel ...

Adaptive mesh refinement for the numerical modelling of complex microstructural evolution applications

The objective of this note is to demonstrate the necessity of using an appropriate automatic adaptive meshing technique so as to handle complex microstructural evolutions. Examples of such microstructural evolutions include the deformation and recrystallization of polycrystalline aggregates or the growth of dendrites occurring during the solidification of metallic alloys. In such applications, ...

Adaptive Mesh Refinement and Superconvergence for Two-Dimensional Interface Problems

Adaptive mesh refinement and the Börgers’ algorithm are combined to generate a body-fitted mesh which can resolve the interface with fine geometric details. Standard linear finite element method based on such body-fitted meshes is applied to the elliptic interface problem and proven to be superclose to the linear interpolation of the exact solution. Based on this superconvergence result, a maxi...

Comparison between Adaptive Refinement and Adaptive Coarsening for Simulating Realistic Force and Shape of Virtual Cloth

Shape as well as force is required to represent the cloth in virtual environment. A model, based on the cost functions, realizes the shape together with force by using physical data obtained from Kawabata Evaluation System. However, cost/ energy minimization technique is very slow that restricts the increase of mesh density. Some of previous work has employed the adaptive refinement in this reg...
